Syrup and Elixir:
Step 1: Steep two times the volume of root into honey over low heat and for one hour
Step 2: Allow to partially cool and filter to prepare a syrup
*Alternatively to make an Elixir:
Step one: Use one part OSHA tincture and add three parts of any other syrup base to make an elixir. Historically it is combined with wild cherry bark.
Chew, Honey, and Tinctures:
Chew: Grate or mascerate soften by soaking in a liquid like brandy or honey at a 50:50 ratio to form a sticky mass and then use that soaked root as a chew for sore throats and broncial infections.
Honey: Macerate in honey and then consume. Smaller OSHA roots work best.
This is one of my favorites! In Native Traditions the root is burned and the smoke is inhaled by closing one nostril and slowly breathing in . This is used for headaches, sinus congestion, and head cold symptyms. Only a very small piece of root is used and please take care when done that the root is completely extenguished.
Prepared at an herb to extract raio of 1:1:1: The menstruum of what to use is equal parts of a good vodka or 100 percent alcohol. One part water, and One part osha root. Once that has been prepared, percolate through a small strainer or cheese cloth and put in an airtight container to sit for two weeks.
